The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is Li 3,300,000, being a decrease of Lioo,ooo during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities remains at 44 per cent. The Bank rate of discount remains at 4 per cent., market rate Consols are . unchanged at and New Zealand securities at yesterday’s quotations. Adelaide wheat, ex store, remains at 475, and New Zealand ditto at 44s to 475. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 335. Australian tallow—best beef, 40s; best mutton, 41s. Hides are in good demand at an advance of per lb. The British Troops in Egypt. London, august 3. In the House of Commons last night Mr Gladstone was questioned regarding the course which the Government proposed to adopt with respect to the withdrawal of British troops from Egypt, and the probable duration of the occupation of that country by the British force. In his reply the Premier declined to undertake to consult Parliament before withdrawing the regiments still in Egypt, or to fix the date for the termination of British occupation of that country. The Cholera. Cairo, August 3. Thirteen more deaths have occurred from cholera Jamong the British troops stationed in this country, notwithstanding stringent measures which have been adopted to preserve the health of the men.

Owing to the quarantine difficulties the British Government has suspended the conveyance of mails by the Egyptian railways, and has sanctioned their transport by the Suez Canal. Passengers from Venice and Brindisi going eastward will join the London trunk service at Port Said, and passengers from the Continent leave Venice and Brindisi fortnightly by direct steamets to Bombay via the Canal, but not touching at any Egyptian ports, strict quarantine being maintained for Homeward steamers at all Italian and French ports, and the P. and t O. Co. have therefore decided to accelerate the speed of the Homeward bound packets to Plymouth, passengers thereon avoiding all quarantine. The Plague Abating. Cairo, August 3.
