, At the meeting of the Pioneer Diamond Company at Christchurch yesterday, Mr Kelsey’s last telegram was read as follows ; —“ Diamonds have been tested by a thoroughly competent authority, who declares a fair proportion of them are genuine. Am cabling the result of the cuttingonFriday.” ThevaluoofthePioneer shares is LSO, and of Kohinoor L 22. In connection with the diamond discovery, we may mention that a good deal of excitement was caused to-day by several specimens being exhibited of precious atones, which are said to have been picked up in the river-bed, opposite the Ashburton Hotel. These are described as presenting an exactly similar appearance to the Afford Forest diamonds,' so that if things turn out as some people anticipate, we shall have riches even nearer at our door than was expected.
