IN THE LOBBY.

[from our parliamentary correspondent.] Wellington, To-day. The Legislative spree at. Masterton yesterday was a very tame affair. Members reached home at half-past eight ,at night. Notwithstanding the .Ministerial assurance that Sir Dillon Bell does not contemplate retiring from ' the AgentGeneralship, it is considered pretty certain here that he will shortly be succeeded by Sir John Hall. Mr Evans Brown appeared to be much amused at the rumor of his being selected to join the Ministry with the portfolio of Railways. Mr Wright is unquestionably the coming man. : Ic is merely intended this session to submit a resolution in favor of tjie reconstruction of the Upper Chamber. A Bill will be prepared during the recess, and on that an appeal will be made to the country at the next general elaition. Appearances are still in favor ot, the supposition that the session vyilj end Tyith August.

The Government confidently rely on a majority of at least nine on the Property Tax no-coafidonce debate.

A deputation, including Messrs Steward, Driver, Turnbull, Wright, Ivess, Duncan, Hart, Campbell and others, interviewed the Ministry to-day to obtain their support to a Bill ameqding the District Railways Act. After hearing the deputation, the Premier dor sired them to put all their suggestions iq writing, and he would give an answer after carefully considering their pro» posals.
