[per press association.] A Speculation. AUCKLAND, To-day. Goodson's building, where the fire occurred last night, was sold to the Australian Mutual Provident Society this week for L 14.400, as an investment. The damage to the building amounts to only a few pounds, and ti>e damage 10 the stock about L3OO. It is insured in the Colonial office.

Oddfellowship. At a district meeting of Oddfellows a statement submitted showed 14 Lodges in the Auckland district, with 1,190 members ; 153 were admitted during the year; sick gifts to members, L 1,198 ; medical attendance, L 998. The total receipts to sick fund during the year were L 3,233 ; gained by the fund after payment of expenses, L 1,012 ; gain of the Lodge District funds during the year, L4ll. Quarantined. Wellington, To-day. The steamer Hankow, from Foo Chow, arrived this morning, but as she comes from an infected port she proceeded to the quarantine ground. She has a cargo of tea. Football. There is beautiful weather for the football match. Wood, who captained Wellington against Dunedin, is unwell and unable to play. This is a serious loss to the local team. A Fire. Christchurch, To-day. At 2 o’clock this morning a grocer's shop and a three-roomed house at Woolston was burned down. It was insured in the Standard for L 200; the Liverpool, London and Globe, L 220;0 0; and in the North British Mercantile Ll5O. Nothing was saved.
