Priestly, who was tried with Mrs Hamiltod for the murder of the latter’s husband and acquitted, attempted his first series of lectures throughout the colony, under the auspices of an American agent, in the Onehunga Hall last night. Mobs surrounded the (hotel where Priestly was stopping and'pelted him with eggs from the hotel to the Hall, knocking off his hat. The Hall was then besieged’and assaulted with showers of eggs. Priestly was afraid to leave the building, which was surrounded by the mob, who vowed their determination to give him a warm reception. The light was turned out in the Hall, and Pritartly remained imprisoned there till eleven at night, when the mob dispersed and he effected his escape safely. Death of Mr PriceGisborne, To-day. Mr Matthew Price, late R. M. at Gisborne, died this morning, aged 60. The Football Match. Wellington, To-day. A Strong southerly buster, accompanied by heavy rain, has sec in, and the football match, Canterbury v. vi ellington, is postponed dfitil Saturday. 1 Identified. Dunedin, To-day. It wa> reported in Christchurch to-day that a cable message had been received from Mr Kelsey, who took the Alford Forest stones to be tested, stating that they are diamonds, but that the quality is questionable.
