IN THE LOBBY.
[from our parliamentary correspondent.] Wellington, To-day. A return moved for by Mr Turnbull with the object of showing the total amo.unt paid to the Assistant General Manager of Railways, Mr Hannay, as travelling allowance for the twelve months ending 30th June, 1883; also, tha number of dayt occupied by him in his official duties at Wellington during the same period, was laid on the table yesterday. The amount so paid as travelling allowance was L 207 10s, and the number of days spent in Wellington during the year was 130 T When it is considered that the dutiris.of Mr Hannay wore supposed to be similar to those discharged by Mr Conyers, - namely, to attend to the railways in the Middle Island, it seems scarcely consistent with the efficient discharge of those duties that so great a proportion of the year should he spent in the North Island, practically doing work for which Mr Maxwell is paid about a thousand a year, besides travelling allowance to attend to.
