COMMERCIAL.
Ashburton Guardian Office, Wednesday aftemesn. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, limited, report on the Ashburton market, under date July 24th:— Sheep : A good representative entry of all classes, though none sold freely. Fat sheep, were much in excess of local wants, and few were quitted. We afterwards sold privately most of the entries entrusted to us at prices fully maintaining our late quotations. Fat cross-bred wethers made 14s Sd and 15s 6d; Inerinbs, 9s gd; lambs, 6s yd. Few stores were sold under the hammer; but, as staffed !we subsequently sold 400 crossbred hoggetts; Crossbred ewes, and 456 ewes at market ■ values. —Cattle ; A moderate supply only wak brought forward, chiefly steers in good forward condition. The sale was somewhat dragging, evincing no features of special interest "Bullocks made from L 6 15 to Ly 5 s - Dry heifers, L 3 2s yd.. A few medium dairy cows were submitted, but failed to change hands. '
