IN THE LOBBY.

[from our parliamentary correspondent.] Wellington, To-day. Mr M. W. Green is determined to hang on to his Eight Hours Bill till the death. He intends to move for its re-committal, with a view of inserting the following new clause :—“ In all cases where claims for daily labor done may be lawfully recovered or allowed in any action, suit, or proceeding, but when the rate of hours per day of such labor has not been previously agreed upon by cr between the parties, the party entitled to payment for labor shall be allowed to recover and receive payment for the same, and the day’s labor shall be reckoned at the rate of eight hours per day, all hours of labor done over such eight hours being reckoned as parts of other days to bet computed at

the same rate of eight hours per legal day.” At a caucus of Government supporters to-day, fifty-four being present or accounted for, it was intimated that the Bankruptcy, Married Woman’s Property, Bills of Exchange, Fisheries, Affirmation, and Native lands Bills would be passed into law, and that the session might be brought to a close at the end of August. A Cabinet meeting was held to-day, when the measures were selected with which the Government intend to persevere this session. It would thus appear that the weeks of the session are already numbered. The first business in the House this afternoon is the second reading of the Native Land Company’s Bill. The debate on which is not now expected to last more than an hour or two at the most, though of course it may drag out the whole afternoon. Questions having been disposed of, three new Government Bill will be introduced, viz.. Legislative Officers Salaries Bill, General Assembly Members Expenses Bill, and Native Committees Bill. The first Order of the Day on the corrected Order Paper * is the resumption of the debate on the annexation question.
