INTERPROVINCIAL FOOTBALL MATCH.
[by telegraph.] Christchurch, To-day. The Canterbury v. Otago Football Match, at Lancaster Park, was played today. The weather was very unfavorable, rain falling and a bitter south-west wind blowing. The ground was slippery and wet. 800 peoole were present. The game was played in two 45 minutes’ spells. Canterbury won the toss, and Robertson, the Otago captain, kicked off. Canterbury, aided by the wind, ruffied the ball towards the Otago goal. The blues soon, rallied, and a succession of scrimmages took place, in which the superior weight of the Southern men told. After twenty minutes’ play Galbraith made a brilliant charge and secured a touch-down for Otago. He tried api me kick at goal but failed, the ball being too slippery. Thera was no further scoring during the remainder of the first spell, though Canterbury was hard pressed several times, their back play being weak.
