The Colonial Treasurer delivered his financial statement in the Legislative Assembly to-night He estimates the revenue for the present year at L 6,100,000, and the expenditure at L 6,060,000, leaving a surplus of L 40,000. The revenue for the past ' / financial year amounted to L 5,770,000, and the expenditure to L 5,690,000, [Received July 19, 1.20 p.m.] Political. . Sydney, To-day. At a banquet given to the Ministry last fnight at Woollongong, Mr • Stewart, the Premier, m the course of his speech in replying to the toast of the evening, promised ta introduce a : Land Act Amendment Bill early next session, and stated that the Ministry • would stand, or fall by the measure. The Premier further announced that the Government would submit an ex- : tensive railway policy of a -more comprehensive character than any yet ’ placed before Parliament. ' Financial Prospects. Melbourne, To-day. The Colonial Treasurer announced in his statement last night that it is ■ proposed to raise a new loan of one ‘ million for the construction of new lines of railway, and in order to utilise the rolling-stock and rails now on hand. It is further intended to issue . a new loan of three millions to meet i the old loan falling due. The public ■ debt of the colony is now La 6,000,000, The Treasurer showed that the revenue from the railways and waterworks, after the payment of all expenses, was sufficient to pay 4 per cent, on the capital invested.
