AN EXPLANATION.
To the Editor. Sir, —Would you allow me, through your columns, to explain an oversight that occurred at our Temperance ra°eting last night. I had asked my friend the Rev C. H. Standage to be present on the occasion and to address a few words to
the meeting, and he had very kindly consented, at some personal inconvenience I believe. Mr Standage did not arrive till somewhat late in the evening and took his seat at the bottom of the hall. I noticed this, and concluded rather thoughtlessly that he was not desirous of speaking, and so contented myself with acknowledging his kindness in being present. Mr Standage was good enough to accept my explanation, and I have simply written the above to prevent misunderstanding on the part of any members of his congregation.—l am, etc., E. A. Scott. The Parsonage, Ashburton, July 17, 1883.
