Kegs extra. Messrs Miles and Co, perj. T. F#rd, report on the live stock market, etc., for the week, ending Thursday, July sth, 1883, as follows : —Addington : Probably owing to the inclement weather there was not a very large entry of fat sheep at this market an Wednesday ; there were, however, some lines of very prune quality, notably a consignment of crossbreds from Mr W. McLennan, of Halkett, and another of merino wethers from the Hon • John McLean’s Laghmor Station, Ashburton. Although we cannot quote an actual rise in ■ prices, still, owing to the small number yarded, and the fact that there were enquiries for 1 or 2 ■ fines for freezing there was a little more animation in the biddings. We quote mutton at 2d to 2j£d per lb; merino wether mutton was barely ’2d per lb ; beef, 16s to 21s per loolbs. Very few store cattle were entered and there was no improvement in values. Pigs were in fairly full supply, and p ices continue satisfacfectory. The total entries for the day were 3003 sheep, 228 head of cattle and 95 pigs. We yarded 1415 sheep, or nearly half the number entered. We sold on account of the Hohjohn McLean, Messrs J. T. Brown, P. Grant, W. McLennan, W. B. Clarkson, J. s Smith and others. Mr W. McLennan’! lot were a grand line of sheep, and we topped the market for the day with them at 17s 3d per head, their destination being the Freezing Factory. The Hon John McLean’s merinos were also splendid sheep, and realised qs each. Mr J. T. Brown’s consignment sold at 12s all round. Other lines sold equal to our quotations. Privately during the week we have sold 400 wethers on account of Mr W. M'Lennan, ; and a line on account of Mr W. B. Clarkson, both lots being bought for freezing. The frozen meat trade has to a certain extent influenced the prices of good quality sheep, although not visibly affecting values throughout,—Tinwald : At this market on Tuesday last there was a small entry, the weather being very forbidding. We sold a line of merino wethers, light weights, but good quality, at 8s 4d. A consignment of fat bullocks in prime condition, on account of Hon, - John M’Lean, we sold at Lll per head. These .were our principal transactions for the day.— Methven; We held a very successful clearing sale in this district on Thursday last, June 28th, on account of Messrs P. Lee and Co.
