Ashburton Guardian Office, Thursday afternoon. The Sydney Markets. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report of the Sydney matkets, under date June 2t, as follows: ■Wool: This market continues steady, and some fur parcels of scoured skinwool have found purchasers at from ißd to 23d. In greasy there is nothing specially noteworthy. Sheepskins ; Some large catalogues have been disposed ot during the week, and the market still exhibits firmness at our last quotations. Tallow: Good competition both for export and local requirements. Market firm at our previous quotations. Butter: Values have declined somewhat since our last advices ; large stocks being held- by dealers, and very little having been taken up for consumption. Potatoes: Stocks are still very heavy, and holders have only been able to make small sales at from L 3 to L 3 5s per ton. Qats : We fear that while maize cond ues at so low a figure there is hut little chance of any improvement in values for oats. Large quantities are still held in store, owners hesitating to accept the low figures nowruling. A line of 10,000 bushels was quitted at auction this week at from is qd to 2s 1 }4d per bushel, according to quality, so that scant encouragement is offered to New Zealand shippers. We quote prime feed, 2s 5d to 2s 9d per bushel; inferior, is gd to as 3d per bushel (bags included). Bran ; A fair demand condones, and small parcels may be quoted up to is 2d per bushel. We placed a line of 1600 sacks at fair value during the week. Hops ; Nothing whatever doing. New Zealand flax: We have placed a few tons of well dressed fibre at Ll 9 to Ll 9 10s per ton.
