[fKIl PRESS ASSOCIATION.] A Contradiction. Wellington, To-day. The reported withdrawal by the Shaw, Saville and Albion Company of their order for building steamers for direct service to New Zealand is authoritatively denied. Railway Works. The Wellington-Manawatu Railway Company will to-day call for tenders for the construction of seven miles of line, extending from the Fitzherbert bridge in a southerly direction. It is understood that Henderson and Co., of Otago, are the sue essful tenderers for the Porirua bridge contract portion of the line. The price is just under LIB.OOO. A Swindler Convicted. Dunedin, To-day. William Simms, for the matchbox trick, has been sentenced to twelve mouths imprisonment.
