Ford, report on.jthe live stock marked, etc., for the week ending Thursday, June 28, 1883, as follows pectedly small entry of fat sheep at this market on Wednesday, and the quality yarded was, vrith few exceptions, ,npt up to the usual . Stafford. bferino wethers formed the bulk of entry, croasbfeds for a wonder being second in point of numbers.' Gopdlipes of sheep, fit for feezing, for which we have many inquires, were conspicuous by their absence. The prices realised in our sales during the day are, we ' consider*: a-r-degaded improvement upon the nmes recently obtainable, this, may perhaps .. fieen'jpartly attributable to ‘ the moderate we think it is most probable that it Is also a forecast of better prices, and we anticipate that fipm about tbis time there will be jtteady rise in values. We note with satisfae&4 that' tftflmtie’ will take 2,500 frozen carasestrom lhis port, which will further relieve themarket and conduce to increased quotations. We-have again much pleasure in specially mentioning Mr Menlove’s consignments, hiscroKbred wethers that we sold last . Wednesday b&Hg., a Aally grand line, fit to grace any market mthe-vVorld; tad being sent forward in the usual first-class condition which characterises drafts from this gentleman’s - estates at Oamaru, they realised the top price, of the day, 22s each all round, the highest figure . for many , weekf-past There. was a very ■mall bf .stores, and prices may be returned at about the same low rate as last week, the dcinandl being nearly down ito zero. In fat cattle there was rather a heavy entry,,and good quality beasts as a rule. Store cattle were ssp, infull supply,, but there was no impncrVemem in either demand or prices. The entry of pigs wab about up to late averages, pretty f0i1,... and,theysu-ej still free of sale, and priced -sire ’good, to 4d being about ruling, We quote mutton at from 2#d to 2j|jd per lb‘;. merino, being in full supply, dub-week; - perhaps slightly less. Beef averaged from xfis.to 21s per ibolb. The total entries for the day were as follows:—49l6 sheep, 297, head of cattle, and 140 pigs. Our dbmes-wereon account of the Acton Station, Mount Hutt Station, Sir John Hall, Messrs E. Menloye, J. H, ..Brett, James Holmes, B. GdWin; j.. A. Pannetl, Dixon, W. B. ClarktfUfiß. Clarkson, Brunsden. Mr £. Menlove’s shepp were the cynosure of all cyes, and topped the market by far as previously quoted. Mr BiefFb 'cbiisignment ef crossbreds, principally wethers, brought 14s fid, part of the line being turned out unsold, biddings not being commensurate with, values. The Mount- Hutt merino - 'wethiers realised 10s all round. The Acton Station wethers brought 9s fid. Sir John Hall’s merino wethers sold at 9s 2d and 9s 3d. Other lines sold- equal to our quotations. A few pens of prime crossbreds met a ready sale at a slight itimhee oh last week’s quotations. Fat cattle full supply to hand. A fair proportion consisted of good and prime quality steers, for • hHhtch there was no improvement on last week’s nths. 1 We'Sold on account of several clients— Prime 1 crossbred wethers at 16s 6d ; merino , Wethers of medium quality, at 8s 6d; store - merinos indrafts, from 4s to 5s id; pigs, prims fjrpmLs 2s to L 3 7s; good do, from Lass to small do, 255.
