It was attended oy Messrs Pearson, Ivess, Holmes, Allwright, MoUraith, Wilson, O’Oallaghan, Thomson and others. Resolutions were passed to the.. following effect(l) That it is not for the-interest : of the country that the East line should be constructed. (2) That it is expedient in the interests of the colony to connect Canterbury and the - West Coast by railway. (3) That Messrs Holmes, White, Ivess, O’Callaghan, Pearson,nnd, Shaw be appointed a deputation to wait on the Government so as to bring the facts before them, and to enquire what'are their intention with regard to the proposed diversion of LIBO,OOO for the piidposu of ; constructing a railway to the West'Coast. ■ The question of routes was expressly left out of the matter, as it was considered Undesirable to say any thing on thkt pbint until the report of the West Coast Railway Commission be presented to 3 'Parliament,-and, the Public Works Estimates, be brought down. The meeting was practically unanimous in all that was done, the only person who left being Mr M'Hraith, who is bound by his election! pledges io support an East Coast lifted"',
