; Mr Levin, member for Thorndon, is but slowly recovering from bis recent severe illness. It is hoped' he may shortly be able to take his place in the House,
but his medical advisers fear - that the impure atmosphere of the House and the draughty passages would at prevent materially reta d his.recovery. • In asking the Minister of Justice yesterday whether it was the intention of the, : Government to appoint a Resident Magiftrate for the Ashburton and Kakaia districts, Mi Ivesa referred to the serious inconvenience: caused by the removal of the' ' Resident Magistrate from the - district, and said the duties have since been per- T ,,. formed by two gentlemen, of whom' one was resident..at Christchurch and the' other at Timaru. Mr Oonolly,. in reply, - said that as a matter of fact Mr Matthew Price was appointed in might be seen by reference to the Gazette, and almost immediately after his ment he was attacked .with an Affefitioii Of the eye.
