IN THE LOBBY.
[from OCK PAJRLIAMjENTARY corbesponDENT. ]
Wellington, To-day,
It seeqis that on Saturday an attempt was made by the Opposition whips to convene a caucus of all sections opposed to the Government, but, with the exception of one or two, nobody put in an appearance, and the meeting was consequently not held. Some of the members returned at last election say they are not so verdant in political matters now as they were on coming up last year, and they decline to be dragged blindfolded after the so-called .Opposition leaders. They mean to,act on their own responsibility, uniniaehbed’ by the leaders, and if the present Ministry exhibit a desire to get through the business in a practical mantaer without delay, they will not offer factious opposition, with the view if possible of securing a brief session and reserving all’ efforts to unseat the Ministry until next session, when they hope from various causes to be stronger.
