SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board .met yesierday,. the members present being Messrs C. N, Mackie (Chairman), Ajlap and White.
"WORKS REPORT. The'Clerk reported that in compliance with the Board’s request, the contractor, Me. Oliffard, had discontinue 1 the work on .Gardener's road till the spring, when the) tussocks could bo more effectually burnt,.. .The.labpr ga-.i have been fully,, employed on the South Road, and at present are on the Chertaey boundary road. A new culvert has been put in on the' River road, near Sodtown, the old one being completely rotten. The sumps on this road are all silted up, and wili be cleared out at an early date.
THE DAY OF ELECTION. The ratepayers’ roll for the district has . been received, and the Chairman has fixed Tuesday, the 19th inst., as nomination day, and the 26th as poll day in the event of one being required. A REQUEST. Correspondence was read from Mr Baxter, asking that a tracing of the road through the Maori reserve leading to Dobbin’s ford be forwarded to the County , Council to be sent to Wellington.— Granted. ROAD REPAIRS. Mr Allan proposed that tenders be called for repairing the various roads in the district during the three winter months, to be in by July sth, so that the new Board could deal' with the matter. Seconded by Mr Mackie and carried.— Attention was called to the quantity of gorse spreading over the roads, and it was decided that fresh notices be sent 1 to all occupiers of land, stating that unless the work is done at once the Board will do it at their expense. ACCOUNTS. The pay-sheet and accounts to the amount of L10617s were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
