Purnell, Esq. Secretary, pro tem—W. H. Gundry. f , The Company is proposed to be formed for the purpose of purchasing the pro- , petty:and' business of the Lion Brewery Company in Ashburton., The very extensive agricultural district, in the centre of which the town of Ashburton is situated, is one in which a very large private as well as hotel trade is carried on, and the facili ies for brewing all that could be wished, and the water of better quality for the purpose than can be found elsewhere in the Province of Canterbury, The Lion Brewery is situated on T.S. j 866 and 367, at the corner of Dobson and Cass streets. The building is of brick, with a concrete cellar, which can be extended underground at a very small 'cost, and is quite new, having been erected about twelve months. , Provisional Directors :

The Building and Plant is all of firstclaaa quality, well arranged and very complete, and with the connection already established it is anticipated that there will be no diffioulty in extending the b isioess, with the influence of the Company and capital, throughout Canterbury* but particularly throughout the Ashburton County. The success which has attended the Brewiary Companies in every part of the world offers a great inducement to capitalists and investors t > take, up shares in Companies of this description, and the promoters have the greatest confidence in the siiccesa of the proposed Company, and have agreed to take One Thousand Pounds’ worth of fully paid up shares should the Company desire them to do so. It is further proposed to obtain the services of a first-class' brewer, to ensure a largA and'profitable trade being done. Although the nominal capital of the Company it £20,000, a comparatively small sum is required to purchase the present''premises and plant of the Lion Brewery, r viz., £3,000, the stock being taken at a valuation. The increased capital is required to extend the present premises and business, and also to erect a raalthouse. It is believed that malting will be a very profitable branch of the Company’s business, owing to the quantity of barley grown in the immediate district. It is proposed to issue 2,000 shares only at present, but it will be left to the discretion of the Provisional Directors to issue as many shares as they think desirable. It proposed to call up £2 per share, as required, in calls of not more than 10s per share,' anil at intervals, after the allotment, of not less than three months.' The remaining shares will be issued to the public (preference being given to existing shareholders) as the requirements ■of the Company deve'ope, and it is confidently believed that a substantial premium will bo obtained on them, as in the case of other Brewery Companies, such premiums to be placpd'to a reserve fund, and thereby strengthen the position of the Company. If the Company is not floated, the deposits will he returned in full to the applicants. f The Share List will be closed on Monday, the 18th June. 1172 Boarding Houses, &c.
