BOROUGH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary meeting of the above Committee was held last evening, the following members being present : Messrs John Orr (in the chair), Sealy, Sparrow, Andrews, and Reddiri. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. i- ■■■'■■ ERECTION OF VERANDAH. Mr St Hill’s tender, in the sum of L2O 6s fid, for the erection of a verandah at the master’s house was accepted. ' : SALARIES. ; The salaries of the teachers were ordered to be paid. SWIMMING BATH. A communication from the Secretary of the Board bf Educatibn waa stating that the question of erecting a bath would be considered at a future time, when funds would be more plentiful. •
master’s REPORT.
The following report was read : I beg tb submit mv report on * the school for the month ended, Bth inst. The average attendance was for the past four weeks respectively; r in'the ripper school,'vzuli, *209.1, 212.3, 208.3; and in the infant department — 139,1, 132.7, 140.5, 141.8; total attendance--348.9. No. on rolls, upper school, 278; infant school, 219. Total nunber on rolls, 497. The attendance would have been much better had it not been for the prevalence of colds in the beginning of the month, and the: presence of an epidemic, viz :—Whooping cough, from which a considerable number of the pupils are at present , suffering. The majority of those who have been irregular during the month have returned the absent notes with satisfactory reasons for their absence. I append a list of those who have made less than two-thirds of the possible attendances during the four weeks. .
It was resolved that the repainting of the black board be held over till the holidays, but that it be cleaned in the meantime. Be the request for goal posts for football, the Committee decided that the sum of LI be experided in the erection of the posts. ACCOUNTS. A number of accounts having been passed for payment, the Committee adjourned.
