H. Gundry. (.JThe Company is, proposed to be formed ' for the purpose of purchasing the property and business, of the Lion Brewery Company in Ashbdrton. ~ The very extensive agricultural district, in the centre of which the town of Ashburton is situated, is one in which a very large private as well as hotel trade is' carried en, and the facilities for brewing; all tha| could be wished, and the water of better Quality for the purpose than can be found elsewhere in the Province of Canterbury. Thq.Lioq, Brew, ery is situated onT.S. 366 and 367, at the corner of Dobson and Cass streets. The building is of brick, with a concrete cellar, which can be extended underground at a very small cost, and is quite new, having been erected about twelve months. The Building and Plant is all of firstclass quality, well arranged and very complete, and with the connection already established it is anticipated that there will be no difficulty in extending the business, >with the influence of the Company and capital, Canterbury, but particularly throughout the Ashburton County. The , success which has attended the Brewei'y Companies in every part of the wpjrld ; offers a great inducement to capitalists and investors to take up shares in Companies of this description, and the promoters hkve the greatest confidence in the success of the proposed Company, and h >ve agreed to take One Thousand Pounds’v’worth of fully paid up shares should the Company desire them to do so. It is further proposed to obtain the. services of.a first-class ■ brewer, to ensure a large and profitable trade being done. Although the nominal capital of the Company! is £20,000, a "comparatively small sum is required to purchase the present' premises and plant of the Lion Brewery, viz., £3,000, the stock being taken at a valuation. , The increased capital is required to extend the present premises and business, and, also to erect;a malthouse. It is believed that malting will be a very profitable branch of the Company’s business, owing to the quantity of barley grown in the immediate district. , It is proposed to issue 2,000 shares only at _ present, but it will be left to the discretion of 'the Provisional Directors to issue as many shares as they think desirable, . -y f ■ ' It propose j to call up £2 per share, as .required, in calls of not more than 10s per share,, and at intervals, after the allotmept/qf not Jess than three months. The remaining shares will be issued to the. public (preference being given to existing shareholders) as the requirements of the Company develope, and it is confidently believed that a substantial premium will be obtained on them, as in the case of other Brewery Companies, such premiums to be placed to a reserve fund, and thereby strengthen the position of the Company.. . ; j. : “•* If the Company is not floated, the deposits .will be returned in full to the applicants.
