Death of Sir Arthur Kennedy. Brisbane Yesterday.
It is reported here that the Colonial Secretary of Queensland received a telegram from Earl Derby, Secretary of State for the Colonies, stating that Sir Arthur Kennedy, Governor of Queensland, died at Aden on the 3rd inst., while on a voyage to England. ~
The Suez Mail. Melbourne, Yesterday.
Arrived, this afternoon —P. and O. steamship Indus, with the inward mails via Suez and Brindisi, dated London, May 4th. A Bailway Opened. Sydney, Saturday
The western railway extension from Nevenire to Nyngan, a distance of thirty-six miles, was opened to-day. The total length of the line now open from Sydney is 377 miles.
A New Statue.
His Excellency the Governor unveiled the statue of the late T. S. Mort, which was erected opposite the Exchange. A vast multitude of people was present, and an eloquent oration was delivered by the Hon W. B. Dailey.
A Total Wreck. Launceston, To-day.
The ship Astrope, which went ashore at Lowhead, has been abandoned to the underwriters, and it It expected to becdme a total wreck.
