Drowned. Auckland, To-day.

Information has been received of the drowning on Thursday last, of Captain James, of the cutter Wave, on the voyage from Mercury Bay to Suva. He was washed overboard. The deceased was formerly a pilot here, and leaves a Wife and six children. The Customs.

Wellington, To-day. The Customs duties collected throughout the colony for last month amounted to 1i118,639 ss, the beer duty for the same period being L 4,470 15s 9d. For the corresponding month’ in 1832 the Customs revenue was L 126,696 16s 6d, and the beer duty L4,98118s B>L The decrease in’ last month as against that collected in. Professor Black reports on the sample of spirits and beer supplied to him from the city hotels by the police for analysis, that all the samples of whiskey 1 and brandy, with one exception, have been reduced after distillation, some to a very large extent. All the brandies were adulterated with sugar and colored by vegetable coloring matter. Indeed, the brandies were not properly brandies at all, being chiefly cheap whiskeys sugared and astringent by the addition of tannin and other foreign vegetable, substances. Joined the Majority.
