CAPITAL £20,000 In 4,000 shares of £5 each, Of whichonly 2,000 shares are now offered to the public. : - f / Provisional Directors : Joseph Ivess, Esq., M. H.R. U. T. Winter, Esq , J. P. Donald Williamson, Esq., Mayor- of Ashburton. Hugo Friedlander, Esq. (Messrs. Friedlander Bros.) ’ David Thomas, Esq. (Messrs. Matson, Cox and Co.) John Carter, Esq. (Messrs. Wilkin and Carter). William Horne, Esq. (N.Z. Grain Agency Co.) Dr. W. G. Ross. Joseph Clark, Esq. Octavius Digby, Esq. Bankers —Bank of New Zealand. Solicitor— o. W. Purnell, Esq. Secretary, pro tern—W. H. Gundry. The Company is proposed to be formed for the purpose of purchasing the property and business of the Lion Brewery Company in Ashburton; ' ' The very extensive agricultural district, in the centre of which the'town of Ashburton is situated, is one in which a very large private as well as hotel trade is 1 carried on, and the facili ies for brewing all that could be wished, and the water of better quality for the purpose than can be found elsewhere in the Province of Canterbury. 1 The Lion Brewery is situated on T.S. 366 and 367, at the corner of Dobson and Cass streets. The building is of brick, with a concrete cellar, which can be extended underground at a very small cost, and is quite new, having been erected about twelve months. The Building and Plant is all of first- , class quality, well arranged and very com? plete, and with the connection already * established it is anticipated that there will be no difficulty in extending the business, with the influence qf’ the Company and i capital, throughout- Canterbury, but particularly throughout the Ashburton • County!, i The success which has attended the Bpewerp Companies in every part of the world offers a great inducement to > capitalists and investors to take up shares . in Companies of this description, and the promoters 'have the greatest confidence in the success of the proposed Company, and have agreed to take One Thousand . Pounds' worth of fully paid up shares should theDompapy desire them to do so. ■' It is further proposed to obtain the ser- - vices of a first-class brewer, to ensure a large and profitable trade being done. Although the nominal capital of the Company is £20,000, a comparatively , small sum is required to purchase the pre- “ sent premises and plant of the Lion Brewery,' viz., ; £3,000, the stock being taken at a valuation. | t The increased capital is required to extend the present premises and business, . and also to erect a malthouse. It is believed that malting will be a very profitable branch of the Company’s business, owing to the quantity of barley grown in the immediate district. It is proposed to issue 2,000 shares only at present, but it will be left to the discretion of the Provisional Directors to issue as many shares as they think desir-. able. It proposed to call up £2 per share, as j required, in calls of not more than 10s per share, and at intervals, after the allot- , ment, of not less than three months. The remaining shares will be issued to [ the public (preference being given to existing shareholders) as the requirements of the Company develope, and it is confi- ■ dently believed that a substantial premium will be obtained on them, as in the case of other Brewery Companies, such premiums to b.e placed to a reserve fund, and thereby strengthen the position of the Company. "If the Company is not floated, the de- ; posits will be returned in full to the applicants. ' : ! The Share List will be closed bn Monday, the 18th June. 1172 Hotels' : H B D R T O N HOT E, L. THOS.
