Mr Carkeek and his party arrived at Cxenui last night, and have just reached town. Mr Oarkeek is annoyed that there should hdve been an alarm about him, and says that if'the weather had been fine he should have remained another Week. He has been at work all the time, and having arms and ammunition was net afraid of being short of provisions.; The country the party has Been over is much in the same direction as Messrs Oheal anil Robinson went through some six years ago. His party are all in good health.

Mr Courtenay is going Home unofficially with a view of inducing immigration to this part of the colony. He addressed a. public meeting here, and resolutions weisej unanimously passed that it is desirable that Mr Courtenay should go Home, and that the Governor be requested through; T Major Atkinson to give him one thousand copies of the Crown Lands Guide, and ona thousand copies of the Wtst Coast Reserves Leasing Regulations for distribution, among farmers’ clubs and reading rooms throughout Great Britain. . fire. The fire then spread to the adjoining cottage, whioh was, , occupied- by Mrs Scoone 'and which was also destroyed.
