An extraordinary session of the Parliament was opened to-day. .In the Legislative Council the address in Reply was voted. In the Assembly the Ministerial Bill for legalising the use of the steam motors on tke tramways in the city was introduced. The debate on the Address in Reply has not yet taken place. New Steam Service. The Australian Navigation Company announce the establishment of a fortnightly service between Fiji and Sydney. The Tramway Difficulty. The debate in the Legislative ..Assembly upon the Government Bill for legalising the use of steam motors on city tramways, was commenced this evening, and is now (ten o’clock) proceeding. [Received May 30, 12.40 p.m.] Shipping. Melboubne, To-day. Sailed, last evening—Wairarapa for the Bluff.
Meeting of Parliament. It is announced that Parliament will meet for the dispatch of business on July 3rd. The Land League Mission. Mr Redmond has arrived here, and has declared that his mission to Australia has already been more successful than he anticipated. The Catholic Party. The Hon N. Fitzgerald has declined to succeed Sir Bryan O’Loghlen as leader of the Catholic party in Parliament
Mr Francis’s Health. Mr James Fraucis is still seriously indisposed.
