Melbourne, May 10. The list prepared by the General Board of Health shows that typhoid fever exists in 143 localities, ophthalmia in 12, scarlet fever in 35, and diphtheria in 23. The principal resolution under consideration being that the Australasian Colonies should apply for admission to a Postal Union, that each of the colonies parties to the agreement be accorded a separate vote in the affairs of the Union ; that each colony continue the management and responsibility of its existing subsidised lines, but that any using such lines shall pay to the subsidising colony the full amount of the Postrl Union rates upon the postal matter transmitted; and if a greater loss be shown than is now incurred, an adjustment shall be made of such excessive loss. Resolutions were passed that in the appointment of cable subsidy on a population basis the aboriginal inhabitants shall be taken to be included. It was also resolvad to call the attention of the Cable Company to their failure to carry out their contract, and to recent interruptions in cables. The delegates have been feted, and picnics were given to them. After a spell of fine weather, cold and wet has set in. The health officer recommends the appointment of a veterinary surgeon, with power to condemn all diseased cattle that may be offered for sale.
