To the Editor. Sir, —ln perusing the Borough Council balance-sheet, my attention was drawn to
AH item of L 39 la 6d for repairs to lamps, 'etc. Now, Sir, seeing that these lamps are quite new, can you inform me why they should require so much repairing 1 Does the fault lie in the quality, or are they exposed to more weather than lamps in other towns ? 1 was led to understand that all work done for the Borough Council amounting to over L 5 was tendered for. Is this contract for repairing lamps, etc., a public contract, or otherwise 1 as the amount of L 39 1s 6d would purchase forty new lamps. Any information on the above subject would oblige.—Yours, etc., Ratepayer. [lf our correspondent will peruse our report of the annual meeting in yesterday’s issue he will find that the item £39 Is 6d includes no less than six new lamps, which were purchased during the year, and their cost was included under “Repairs to lamps.—Ed (?.]
