DASTARDLY ASSAULT.
A most cowardly and violent attack was made yesterday at Rakaia ' on, Mr James Bruce, blacksmith, by a man named
Armstrong, who had been working for him duringthelastfewcjtyiyjß. Itseemsthatowing to some bad workmanship Mr Bruce discharged him, and at noon, when all the other men had gone to dinner, he returned and struck Mr Bruce with a IGinch horse rasp on the temples. Mr Bruce was found insensible, and is now in a very critical state. The police made great efforts to find the man, but up to last night they had not succeeded. It is the intention of a number of the Rakaia residents to assist in the search, and it is to be hoped they will meet with success, and the coward will get his deserts. Our correspondent writes that Mr Bruce is considerably better this morning.
