Ashburton Racing Club.— A special \ . general meeting of the Ashburton Racing l Club is. to be held to-morrow evening, at the Club’s rooms, at half-past seven. Picturesque New Zealand. The second number of this periodical, which is published inAuckland, has reached us. It contains six lithographic drawings, j purporting to represent scenes in the . North Island, but it canno f be said that - Che 'artist-has succeeeed in the task he has ‘ set himself. None of the pictures can by • any stretch of the imagination be . considered good; but some are worse than ' Others. For example, two views of the White Terraces l at Rotomahana are certainly the worst specimens of artistic work wehave ever seen, even in New Zealand, and the only good use they could be ; put to is that they might furnish puzzles for schoolchildren, who would deserve a substantial prize if they could determine what they are meant to represent. The best we can say of the letterpress is that it is worthy of the illustrations it is supposed to explain.

The attempt to revive dresses cut low in the front for ball costumes has been a failure. When anything gels so low as they were it is extremely difficult to revive it. Holloway’s Ointment and Pills combine both sanitive and sanative powers in a high , degree— -by the former term is understood their ability .to preserve health, by the latter their capability to restore health. With these reme- , dies at-hand no invalid need be at fault to guide ' himself or heiself safely through the many trials to which everyone is subjected during our long and ofttimes inclement winters. Coughs, colds, ulcerated throats, diptheria, whooping-cough, can be successfully treated by well rubbing this Ointment upon the chest, and by taking the Pills. During damp foggy weather asthmatical sufterei s will experience the utmost possible relief from ■ the iniinptipn pf the ointment on all tenderphested persons will save endless misery by adopting this treatment.—[Adyt.]
