Maher, who was injured by a fall of earth at Mountain Camp Creek, died last night at 10 o’clock. Wm. Davis, who was injured yesterday by falling through a bridge, died at 3 o’clock this morning. Sporting. Wellington, To-day. Mr Allan M'Lean’s mare Louie was accidently omitted from the nominations for the Wellington Racing Club Handicap. Mr Hately has accepted the position of handicapper for the coming meeting. An Arrest. Nelson, To day. A young man named T. H. Ligbtba-jd was arrested here on his arrival from Wanganui on account of a threatening telegram sent by him to his father. A loaded revolver was found in his trunk. The Weather. The heat here yesterday was very oppressive, being 125 degrees in the sun. A Qood ldea. At the Educational Committee meeting of householders, it was resolved that evening schools for youths who have left school should be provided.
