Adelaide wheat has advanced is per quarter, and to-day is quoted at 50s, ex warehouse. New Zealand wheat remains at 44s to 47s per quarter, according to quality, and Adelaide flour at 335, both ex store. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,280,000 quarters, being 20,000 quarters less than last week. Australian tallow has advanced from 6d to is per cwt to-day. Prices are— Best beef> 43s 6d ; best mutton, 46s per cwt. Best selected transparent kauri gum is quoted at Ll2 10s per cwt., being an advance of 7s 6d per cwt.
The Government's Irish Policy. London, Jan 20. The Marquis ot Hartington, M.P. for North-east Lancashire, and Secretary of State for War, in the course of a speech made at Manchester last night, stated that the present Government would never grant law-making autonomy to Ireland, although it was proposed to grant the Ir sh people a certain measure of self-Government. . The British Forces in Egypt. At an address delivered at Blackburn, Lord Hartington announced that the evacuation of Egypt by the British forces would take place as soon as a stable Government had been established, and added that the action of the British Government had received the approval of most of the European Powers.
Shipping Disaster. News has been received here from Hamburg that the Hamburg-Ameri-can Company’s steamship Cambria has been lost ip the North Sea, having sunk after a cpllisiop with another vessel. Thirty-rijne passengers and the crew reached Cuxhaven, at the mouth ot the Elbe ip the ship’s boats. [Received Jan. 22, 12. £0 p.m.] London, Jan. 21. The steamship Cambria was bound from Hamburg to New York. There were 490 souls on board when she sailed. Up to the present only 56 have been saved, and the worst is feared as to the fate of the remainder. Railway Accident in America. New York, Jan. 21.
