Melbourne, Saturday.

The cricket match between the English and Australian teams waa resumed to-day. The Englishmen continued their first innings, Read and Bates, the not outs of yesterday, again taking their places at the wickets. Both players batted well, and added over 40 to the score before they were separated. Bates was at length caught for 55, and Read was caught for 75. G. B. Stndd was bowled when he had made one run, and the innings then closed. The following is the full score Barlow, b 14 C. T. Studd, b 14 C. F. H. Leslie, run out ... 54 A. G. Steele, c ... ... 39 Barnes, b ... 32 E. F. S Tylecote, b ... 0 Hon Ivo Bligh, c 0 G. B. Studd, b 1 Bates, c ... 55 W. W. Read, c 75 Morley, not out ... ... 0 Extras ... ... ... 10 Total 294 The Australians went in for their first innings, Bannerman and Murdoch being sent to face the English bowling. Bannerman had contributed 14 when he was bowled, and Massie joined Murdoch, These batsmen got well set, and runs came fast. Massie was, however, bowled when he had put together a well played 43. None of the other players made any stand against the bowling of the Englishmen, Ga rett being the only one to reach double figures. Murdoch, however, remained at the wickets throughout, and carried out his bat for a splendidly played 17. The innings closed for a total of 114.
