. . —* ♦ [per press association.] Found Drowned. - Auckland, To-d*y. A waterman named William Fitzaimmonda was found drowned in the harbor to-day. The body had evidently been in the water twenty-four hours. Murder Case. The case of James Crawley, charged with murdering his wife with a box-iron, ' 1 is proceening at the Supreme Court, and will probably occupy all day. Sporting. The following are the acceptances for the Takapuna Handicap of 150 sots : Libeller, Merlin, Fishwoman, Lonehand, Maori, Nigger, Gilderoy, Nettle. For the Steeplechase Mount, Hathaway, St. Swithin, Tricotrin, Chandler, Cob, Chanticleer. The Wesleyan Conference. It is expected that eighty clergymen and lay representatives will attend the Wesleyan Conference, which opens next Presbyterianism. Dunedin, To-day. At .the Synod powerful speeches in favor of union were delivered by the Rev. Messrs Cairns and Douglas. The Rev. Mr Bannerman’s amendment, shelving the question, was negatived by 41 to 14. Mr Morice’s motion, affirming the union and re-appointing tbs committee to carry on. negotiations, was carried by 45 to 21. The result was received with prolonged cheering. ___________
