The various colonial Agents-General Waited to-day on Earl Kimberley, the late Secretary of State for the Colonies. Sir Alexander Galt, High Commissioner’for Canada, addressing Lord Kimberley On behalf of ithose present, expressed regret at his lordships’ severance from the Colonial Office, but hoped that his interest in the Chlorites would not be lessened thereby. Earl • Kimberley, in reply, thanked his visitors, for their kind expressions, arid assured:them that he would continue tO take’ a warm interest in colonial affairs. f.[

Sir Alexander Galt, Canadian High Commissioner, congratulated Earl Derby on his appointment to the Colonial office, Iftrd'expressed confidence in His Lordship's desire to promote the interests of the colonies. Earl Derby, in reply, said that he was gratified with the kind expressions of his visitors, and hoped that the intercourse would be of a friendly character, and would tend to promote the welfare of the colonies. • Mr. Gladstone. The Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone Started to-day for Cannes, in the South of France, on a trip for the benefit of his health. - France and Egypt, v r. c . Paris, Jan. 15. ’ The Premier, in the Chamber of deputies to-day, made a statement in {reference to Egyptian affairs. He retrieved the whole position at length, and concluded by announcing that as England - had decided to act alone in the settlement of the Egyptian question, Ftaftcb would, in future, reserve to her-self.perfect-freedom of action in regard to Egypt. - Withdrawal of Troops from Egypt. Alexandria, Jan. 16. The first i batallion of the Shropshire Regiraent (formerly the 53rd foot), and the first batallion of the Royal Irish Regiment (formerly the xßth foot), now in Egypt, have been ordered , io'Malta, and will proceed there withloiitdelay; b: - A Napoleonic Manifesto. . Paris, Jan. 16. A manifesto, signed by Prince Jerome "Bonaparte, has been placarded throughout Patis. - It strongly denounces the Government, and says the claim of the - Napoleons is a heritage. Prince Jerome bas been arrested in consequence of the tnanifesto. Attempt, to Assassinate the Sultan. ■ . Constantinople, Jan. 15. ;. ( Xt is reported that a band of Circasfiaris made an attempt on the life of the Multan to-day. The guard at the palace, however, prevented the entrance of the would-be assassins and frustrated . the attempt. It is stated that the Circassians fought desperately, anfi that several lives were lost. The repotti has caused considerable excitement. ;here, but it requires confirmation.'
