Arrangements had been made by a number of gentlemen to give him a private banquet, but the Mayor received a telegram from Mr Bryce discountenancing a public reception, and Tawhaio hearing of this, the natives say, became offended and left. He proceeds next to Foxton, Waixarapa, and back to Waikato, via Hawke’s 'Bay.
