Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday Afternoon. ‘ Mr T. Bullock reports for the week ending January 6th : Horse Market :At the Bazaar, Burnett street, on Saturday, 29 horses were brought forward for sale, a large proportion of which was of rather an inferior description.. For medium draughts there were several inquiries, and those that were sold fetched satisfactory prices. No first-class draughts were Offered. Light harness horses were very difficult to get a bidding for. For hacks the biddings were also languid. There was about an average attendance of country settlers and Others. Out of the total number of horses entered (29) 12 were sold at the following prices, .viz.:—Medium draughts, L2O, LlB 10s, Ll 7 ' jos ; aged and inferior draughts, Ll2 10s, Ln los, LlO 15s; three-year-old colt of rather a light description, Ll 3; light harness horses, L 5 15s to Li2 ios; scrubbers as low asL2 10s. oMcCormick’s wire reaper and binder, L 35 ; -;dray, Ll2 5s ; spring trap, Ll 4 10s. * Mr Alfred Harrison reports his weekly sale as follows : —Saturday, January 6th.—Horses, very dull; there were many good draughts entered, but owners’ reserves proved too high. Several cows sold fairly well. Calves are low In value. Pigs sold very well, and are enquired .for. Fowls, 2S to 2s 6d ; ducks, 3s 6d. Pro- * duce : Potatoes, rd per lb; onions, id per lb; chickwheat, 3s ; feed barley, 3s; cheese, £d. ■. Sundries sold well. Attendance very good, ‘■'‘but fanners generally look hopefully to being too busy to attend sales at all for some weeks to come, and I hope it may be so.
