Wool Auctions. Thfe New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, catalogued 3,200 bales at their wool sale to-day, and sold 2,700 at satisfaatory prices. ;The competition was very brisk, fine .sorts being in good and demand. Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned this evening till February 14th for the Christmas holidays. The ,Hawthorne AccidentThe imjuest into the circumstance undet-whipb Mr Thomas was killed at the -recent railway accident at Hawthorne was concluded to-day. The verdict of the jury is to the effect that the fatality was caused by the culpable negligence : of ! the station-master, Thompson, of Hawthorne, and Guard Hunt, who was in charge of the special train by which thfe deceased was a passenger, and both were arrested on a charg&of ipfinslaughter; bail, however, was allowed : in the case of each prisoner. The jury added two riders to the verdict; in the first they expressed the opinion that the evidence adduced at the inquest showed great lack bf'organisation and discipline to cxisj in. the railway department, and advised 1 the E appointment of a permanent head to the department; the second urging the imperative necessity for employing continuous brakes to all the trains without delay.
