A SUGGESTION.
To the Editor. —Sir, — Would you kindly make known, through the medium of your valuable paper, a suggestion, which, will, I think, express the views of a large number of the Ashburton residents generally, and the tradespeop’e in particular. It is in re Anniversary Day, which falls on Saturday, the 16th inst. As we all are aware, that Saturday is our busiest day, would it not be advisable to postpone the keeping of Anniversary Day to a more suitable time ? My proposition, and I believe it is one that will meet with general favor, is that one additional day at Christmas be proclaimed a holiday, say the Wednesday after Boxing day, in which case it will enable many who otherwise could not get away, to avail themof the excursion fares, and between Christmas and New Year there will be little or no business done, so there would be no loss to trade, and the extra day would be a great boon to the public.—l am, etc., A Citizen.
