. BANKERS v. TOWN PL AYERS^ The above match took place bn Thors*day and Friday even in gR, :■ and [was decided on the first innings in favor of the town. It would have bean more’ satisfactory°hhd the game been played oub.byen if'it had necessitated encroaching on next .week, and we sec no reason why a series of such matches should notfh'e playfed-during the summer evenings, and-continued fromdayv ■to day until each respective game ia^ completed. Such a course would' infuse a healthy rivalry between the respective teams, and, as has been remarked in thesd columns before, be excellent practice for our local Th*^/Wate no very commendable features noticeable in the match under notice,? the bowlirg being only‘fair on both sides', hut ' the fielding was wretchedly loose, and' the members of the Ashburton Clubs evidently pay t o little attention to 'IbTA' section of the game. While endeavoring to become proficient in batting - andtruodling, we trust that smart atfdJbril-1 liant fielding will be the ambition of Ashburton csicketers, ipatea4 of,'-as heretofore, neglecting the’ ’department altogether.
