[pee pebss association.] Killed by a Horse. Auckland, To-day. . • Thomas James McFadden was killed at Waiuku through his horse falling on him.

A Clerical Miser.

One of the most extraordinary men in Auckland is the Rev. William Comrie, who has lived in a house on the top of West Queen street for forty years. By lending money he has accumulated an enormous fortune, but the habit of saving has grown upon him till he could not find it in heart to afford himself the common necessaries of life. He lived in a ruinous house in a state of squallor and dirt, which was shameful to behold. A few days since Mr Comrie was removed from his tumble-down duelling and taken out to his nephew’s farm at Pukekohe. The Terawhiti Goldfields. Wellington, To-day. The Hon. Mr Rolleston and the Undersecretary for Mines, visited the Terawhiti goldfields yesterday, and inspected several of the claims. Mr Rolleston expressed himself highly pleased at the appearance of the mines and the samples of stone which were taken out.
