Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday afternoon. Mr T. Bullock reports for the week ending November 25th : —Horse Market : At the Bazaar, Burnett street, there was again a large .attendance of country settlers and others; also a long entry of horses, viz,, 55, amongst which were a number of very useful medium draughts, the majority being sold at very satisfactory prices, as shown below. Light harness horses, of good description, also sold better than at previous sales. The total entries for the day were 55, out of which I sold 20. On account of Mr Johnston, I sold 6 medium draughts as follows, viz.—Ll6 I os, LlB, L2l, L2l lOS, L 23 10s. On account of same owner, weightcarrying hack, at Ll 7. On account Mr Wm. Doherty, a pair well-bred 2-year-old fillies, at LlB ios the pair ; 1 do. at Lp. On account Mr James Jamieson, I draught filly, unbroken, T />R ios. On account of other owners, a pair 3-year-old draught fillies, L 49 the pair; I draught filly rather light, Ll 7 ios. Medium draughts, aged and inferior description, brought from Ll2 to LiS; light harness horses, L 8 to Lt2. Owners of some of the entries placed rather too high reserves, which prevented their changing hands. On account of the High School Board, I offered by auction, the lease for 14 years, with an increased rental of 30 per cent, for the last 7 years, the following reserves, viz,—No. 1123, containing 128 acres, and situated on Messrs Gould and Cameron’s run, was purchased by Mr Cameron at 6s per acre for the first 7 years; reserve No. 1542, containing about 15 acres, and situated near Alford Forest, Mr Wm. Fergus was the purchaser at 13s per acre for first 7 years, with an increased rental of 30 per cent, as above. Mr Alfred Harrison reports for the week as follows -On Tuesday, Nov. 21, I held a sale at my rooms for Mr Friihauf, of unredeemed pledges. When, keeping my promise, I redeemed my pledge and violated a large number made by other people. On Friday, Nov. 24, at the racecourse, I submitted the hack Sandy, which fell to Mr P. Buttler at L 27. I also disposed of Winnie at the same time and place to the same gentleman for L4O. On Satulday, Nov. 25, 1 held my usual weekly sale at my yards, when a goodly number of horses were entered; among the number, Lagmhor brought L3O, after which a well-bred hack Ll 6, others followed at Li 1,, Lio ios, LlO, etc., etc. Cows sold well, every one entered being sold. Calves sold at from 5 s to 12s; pigS are better value, all lines being cleared ;2s 3d per pair. Implements dull. Produce : Potatoes, L 5 to L 6 p/ r ton ; chickwheat, 3s; oats, 3 s 5 flour, Lio per ton. I also sold for Messrs Salek, pawnbrokers, a large quantity of jewellery. The attendance during the whole day was a good one, a very good sale being the consequence.
