[reuter’s telbqra'ms—copyright.] Earthquake. Melbourne, Yesterday. A shock of earthquake was felt over the greater portion of this colony last night. Kauri Sales. Messrs C-S. Ross and. Co.-, of this city, sold a cargo of kauri timber, ex Alceslis, by auction to-day, at the following average prices per 100 ft super.: —Hewn logs, 16 s qd ! ; sawn flitches, 17s 6d; sawn boards,, iin., 20s; do., in to 3 in, 21s; T. and G, flooring, 6 x 9s qd ; d0.,f4 x 6d; do., 4 x 1,5 s 6d. The market is dull. Cricket. The Hon. Ivo Bligh’s English Eleven commenced a match to-day against an eleven of Victoria. The weather was very fine and favorable for the match. A large number of spectators visited the ground during the day. Great interest is being taken in the contest. The Englishkien went in first to the wickets, and remained in till late in the afternoon, when the last wicket fell for a total of 273. The following are the-scores : G. B.' Studd, b, 1; Bates, c, 44; C. T. Studd, b, 56 ; Barlow, b, 44 ; A. G. Steel, b, 2 ; Barnes, c, 8; W. W. Read, b, 1 ; E. F. S. Tylecote, stumped, 37; C. F. H. Leslie, not out, 57 ; G. F. Vernon, b, 9; Morley, b, to; extras, 4; total, 273. The Victorians, who commenced their first innings late in the afternoon, had lost two wickets when the stumps were drawn for the day for 16 runs. Private telegrams report that 600 tons of cargo, partly in good condition, have been saved from the wreck of the 1 steamship Gulf of Finland at Jebbue ! Zoogfl (?), in the Red Sea. Wheat and Plour. 1 Adelaide, Yesterday. has fallen 104 s xid. The,
market is quiet, and no business is doing. Town flour is: quoted at Liz 15s per ton, and country brands at Ln 7s 6d. Prices are nominal Cleared Out. Several farmers in the PekiUa [district, of this colony have sold out and left for the Middle Island. South Australia. The South Australian Association are circulating large numbers of guide books and plans of that colony, and its agricultural advantages and prospects are exciting mdfeh A interest here. Another Strike. The Adelaide wharf lumpers have struck work, and it is feared that disturbances may be caused by them. [Received Nov. 18, 1.45 p.m.] ProroguedAdelaide, To-day. The South Australian Parliament has been prorogued to February 6th-next. Produce. ; Sydney, Yesterday. New Zealand wheat has; declined 4d per bushel during the week, and: is now quoted at 5s 4c!. New Zealand oats have fallen to 3s 4d, and maize to 43 3d. Sugar Company’s No. r pieces remain at L 35 per ton. Nothing New. Nothing further has transpired regarding the political crisis. Sir Henry Parkes left town this morning to see Lord Loftus at his Excellency’s country seat The Austral. The inquest on the bodies of the men who were drowned in the Austral has been adjourned until Monday next, the 20th inst. /
