COMMERCIAL.
The Com Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 17th inst. : —The preceding week having been entirely taken up by the holidays, business in the grain trade was almost entirely suspended. The present has not developed much activity, indeed the fulfilling of local demands is the only business stirring. Wheat : The extreme quietness which has prevailed has had a depressing tendency, and values may be quoted as a shade easier. Prime milling samples, 4s 4d to 4s 6d per bushel; second quality, 4s ; chick wheat, 3s fid to 3s ?d per bushel. Oats : The local demand has been somewhat brisker. Values are not materially altered but are firm, and good short milling quality, 3s 4d to 3s 3d ; feed, 3s 3d to 3s 4d per bushel. Barley : There is no inquiry for malting samples ; feed quality, 3s 4d to 3s fid per bushel. Potatoes : The demand has sensibly slackened ; holders are still, however, asking Ls 10s to L 6 per lon. Cheese and Batter : The former is worth, for old, 8d; new, fid ; the latter, 8d to B}£d per lb.
