Sir Stafford Northcote has given notice in the House of Commons that be will on Friday next, the 10th inst, ask the Premier to fix a date for the debate oa the question of the occupation of Egypt by the British troops. Sepoys. London, Nov. 8. A detachment of the Sepoy troops arrived yesterday at Portsmouth. Anthony Trollope. London, Nov. 9. Anthony Trollope has now recovered from his indisposition. A Sensible Suggestion. . A note has been addressed to thej Powers by the Egyptian Government, in which it is stated that Anglo-French control in Egypt should be abolished, because it was found that this dual and political character of the English andFrench controllers had the effect of creating trouble in the Government of the country.

A Satisfactory Statement. Paris, Nov. 9. The French Chambers were opened to-day. In the course of an address on the occasion M. Duclerc stated that communications of a friendly character were passing between the English and French Governments on the subject of certain proposals submitted by the British Cabinet for the settlement of affairs in Egypt. M. Duclerc further announced in connection with the present Socialist agitation in France that Government were determined to firmly, repress any international disorder. Earl Dufferin. Alexandria, Nov. 7. Earl Dufferin, British Ambassador to the Porte, who has been commissioned to conduct negotiations for the settlement of affairs in Egypt, arrived here to-day from Constantinople. The Soudan Rising. Alexandria, Nov. 8. Intelligence is to hand from Soudan' that fighting between the Egyptian troops and the followers of the false prophet has been proceeding for some days past. On the whole the engagements have resulted adversely to theEgyptians, but according to latest reports the latter are now retrieving their recent losses. Trial of the Rebels. .. > Cairo, Nov. 8. The preliminary hearing of evidence against Arabi and his fellow prisoners has now closed. The taking of evidence for the defence begins neitt f month. The Boer-Basuto Trouble. Capetown, Nov. 7. A delegation of Basuto chiefs had'ag audience of the Hon. T. C. Premier, to-day. No understanding was, however, arrived at. The situation is unchanged, and the prospect of a peaceful settlement of the native diflfc culty is considered gloomy. ' 1. A Fatal Fire. Ottawa, Nov. 7.> A serious fire occurred to-day at Halifax, Nova Scotia. The workhouse and hospital attached to the building were destroyed, and thirty-one invalids perished in the flames. The United States Elections. New York, Nov. 7. The State elections throughout the Union are progressing rapidly. London, Nov. 7. . The rebels of the Soudan became dismayed at the report that a British force was approaching, and they have relieved Khartoum and retreated. Floods. London, Nov. 8. ' Severe floods have occurred in various parts of England and Wales, and have greatly interfered with the railway traffic on several lines. Threatening. The Anarchists have threatened to blow up the Bourse at Paris with dynamite. The Irish to Support it. The Irish members have resolved to support Sir Stafford Northcote’s amendment. Improving.
