NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

[bv telegraph.] Dunedin, To-day. The Union match was finished yesterday afternoon, the prize-takers ranging from Gordon (Thames), 76, and Craigie (Invercargill), 76, down to “sixties.” The Rifle Trophy match was won by Volunteer Brooks, of the North Dunedin Rifles, with a good score of 76. The Carbine Challenge match was started after dinner, but had to bo postponed in consequence of the rain. However, the 200 and 300 yards ranges were got through, and the following are the five highest teams; Dunedin Naval Brigade, 256; Thames

Navals, 249; Wellington Artillery', 244 ; Wellington Navals, 241; Thamei Navals (second team), 235. Yesterday morning Mr J. L. Gillies, of Dunedin, and Mr Fergus, MH.R., fired a rifle match, conditions being 200, 600, and 600 yards, standing at the former and kneeling at the remainder. The- match, which was for L 5 5s and trophy,, was won by Mr Fergus, and he immediately presented it to the Rifle Association. It will be fired for by members of the Association. The weather this morning (Wednesday) is fine, but dull and threatening. A large number of spectators will visit the range this afternoon should the rain keep off. It is believed that about 1,000 men will take part in the volunteer review on Thursday. Later. The Carbine Challenge match was finished this morning, with the following result:—Thames Navals, 360; Wellington /Artillery, 343; Wellington Navals, 342; Wairoa Light Horse, 336. The highest team takes the Carbine Cup and LSO, the second L2O, the third LlO, and the fourth L 5. This afternoon has been proclaimed a holiday on the occasion of deciding the championships. In the twenty to fire for the Rifle championship Sergeant Mooseman, of Wanganui, was omitted. r Webster should therefore be out. A vety cold southerly wind is blowing-across the range, accompanied with occasional showers of rain. However, this is not sufficient to stop the shooting. 'Some delay was caused through competitors not turning up at the appointed time.
