UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held on Monday, the 30th ultimo. Present —All the members. The overseer’s report was read, wherein he particularly mentioned Patterson and M‘ Jonochie’s road past Corbitt’s as wanting fresh shingle. Other works in the district requiring repairs were reported on at the same time.—Letters were read from :—Mr A. Rapley, asking for the use of Reserve No. 2063, Black’s road. As this reserve had been let to the late Mr Charles Reed, the Board could not grant Mr Rapley’s request. It was resolved that tenders would be called for renting the Board’s gravel reserves at a price per annum. From the Ashburton Borough Council, asking the Board to warn ratepayers of this district along the Alford Forest road not to allow the clippings of their fences to get into the water channe', as serious inconvenience is felt through the stoppage of the water at bridges. The Overseer was directed to inquire into the matter. The Clerk was instructed to discontinue taking the Lyttelton Times. Tenders were opened as advertised from persons willing to do the clerical and survey work of th# Board, and that of Mr Cyril Jephson, Tinwald, at L 52 per annum, was accepted. The Clerk was instructed to write to the County Council with reference to a ford at Winchmore on the Council’s waterrace, between sections 28550, 28552, and 28551. The Clerk was requested to write to Mr Mark Scott, Tinwald, lessee of the Board’s reserve No. 2064 re his account for fencing a portion of the same, that the Board thought by his dping so he was only acting up to the requirements of the lease. It was resolved that a deputation, composed of Messrs Harper and McLean, interview the County Council re small birds nuisance.— The Clerk was requested to write to the manager of the Union Bank re the Board’s overdraft. He was also requested to write to Mr Charles Shepherd re his rent for reserve rented by him. The Clerk was requested to invite tenders for the purchase of the Road Board buildings, stable, etc., and alternate tenders for their removal to the reserve No. 2064, at Tinwald, without the stable, tenders to be opened at Mr D. Williamson’s store, Monday, the 15th Nov. Other routine work having been gone through, the Board adjourned.
