.. [per press association.] . A Ghastly Discovery. Auckland, To-dpy. 11 The decomposed body of a man .minus ’ head, legs, and arms, was found near Lake a Takapuna yesterday. It is supposed to be the body of one of the seamen of the Ashmore. ° Shot Himself Through the Head. j New Plymouth, To-day. Constable Madigan, at Pungarehu, shot ' himself through the head with a pistol this morning at half-past eight o’clock. A Steamer Disabled. Blenheim, To-day. The steamer Mohaka, which left Wei* lington on Friday got disabled at eleven o’clock the same night. When about sixteen miles off Wairau, a strong south* easier came on and lasted four or five hours. The steamer ran into Tory Channel about one o’clock on Saturday afternoon, and dropped anchor near Jackson’s r Bay. She touched ground slightly but ‘ got off uninjured in about an hour. The t master, mate, and Mr Duncan, a passeni ger, left for Picton in a boat, and reached , Waikawa, some three miles distant,'about nine o’clock. After a wet and windy poll . of over five hours the three*'- reached Picton at half-past ten o’clock at ; night. The master and mate returned to the steamer at 4 a.m. on Sunday with the necessary articles to repair the damages. Drowned. Christchurch, To-day. Robert Parker, a market gardener at Leithfield, has been drowned while endeavoring to cross the river Kowai on horseback while it was in flood. Important Judicial Decision. Dunedin, To-day. An important commercial decision was given by Judge Williams in banco to-day. Prior to 1879, if a debtor was adjudicated a bankrupt on a creditor’s petition, the title of a trustee related back to any act of bankruptcy for which the debtor was capable of being adjudicated a bankrupt. . In the session of 1879, Mr W. D. Stewart obtained an amendment of the Bankruptcy Act, by which the title of a trustee, when a debtor filed a declaration of insolvency related back in the same manner as if the debtor had been adjudicated a bankrupt on a creditors’ petition. Sir Dennis ton for the holder of a bill of sale' in the case under notice, contended that the Apt had not this effect, but the judgment holds the. contrary. It is understood that the Ohio*
