Betting, sto 1 against the Czar, and 6 to 1 against Lord Burghley and Gudarz. There was a good race between the placed horses. Time, 2min 36sec. Steeplechase ; about three miles. Kanaka ... ... ... ... 1 Sailor ... ... ... ... 2 Left Bower... ... • ... ... 3 Eleven horses started. The betting was 5 to 4 against Left Boner, 8 to 1 against,! Kanaka, 5 to 1 against Sailor. These three horses had a splendid race throughout, finishing well together. Canterbury Plate ; two miles and a quarter. Commotion ... ... ... 1 Darebin ... ... ... ... 2 Sweet William ... ... ... 3 Assyrian and Liberator also started. Betting at the post was 5 to 4 on Darobin, and 2 to 1 against Commotion. There was a great race up to the straight, between the two first horses ; Darebin, however, fell back, and Commotion won it rather easily at the finish. Time, 4min 45 (?) sec. 0. J. 0. Betting was brisker on Friday and Saturday, principally in connection with the C.J.C.-Handicap. Salvage still jhotds his place of favorite, and was backed at one pot for 205 to 55, and left off firm at 3to 1. 500 to 80 has been laid about Lady Emma, and 5 to 1 is the best price now obtainable. Turquoise has been backed t’o win a good stake at 100 to 20, whilst 7 to 1 was offered freely about Betrayer without a response. The following are Saturday’s quotations : Derby. All horses engaged at the meeting had training gallops this morning, except Betrayer, who is reported queer, he having been absent from exercise on the last two mornings. Ohevioc easily disposed of Vanguard. Of the other Derby horses, Nonsense moved the best, and looked very well. Salvage did not please the touts so much as on the previous morning, neither did Welcome Jack who had all his work to beat Whitbach over a mile. Turquoise did capital work, and Oudeis showed splendid form in a half mile gallop.
